REELS & STORIES EDITOR — Instagram Reels + Stories (Ongoing, Long-Term)
Location: Remote
Employment type: Ongoing, long-term collaboration (not a one-off gig)
Rate: $5/Reel
ABOUT THE ROLE
I run an online education business built on daily social media content, and I'm looking for a reliable editor to produce my Instagram Reels and Stories on an ongoing, long-term basis. This is consistent, repeat work — not a single project.
What makes this easy on your side: I provide a detailed written brief and cut order for every single piece, plus all the raw material (A-roll, B-roll, C-roll). It's one consistent format, so once you know it, every edit is straightforward.
WHAT YOU'LL EDIT
1) Instagram Reels — the daily core
Vertical 1080x1920 video in a dynamic visual format with voiceovers — one consistent format, published daily. A typical reel is a fast, tightly-timed sequence built from a mix of sources, cut to the exact order in the brief:
- Fast archive-photo sequences — roughly 1 to 1.5 seconds per cut, held in the exact order the brief specifies, with a longer hold on the frames the brief calls out.
- Photo collages — built and held for a set number of seconds, then broken into vertical, full-frame cuts.
- Mixed sources in one file — archive photos, phone footage, professional photo/video, screen recordings and zooms, and simple animation (e.g. a route drawing across a map).
- Talking head + voiceover — voiceover laid under stills or footage; silence trimmed head and tail; speed set to 1.1x; the better of two takes chosen; captions added.
2) Instagram Stories & Highlights — occasional (avg 1-2 per week)
Same vertical 1080x1920 build, worked from a written brief with a cut order for every story — for example, a photo collage held and then split into full-frame cuts, or a short dynamic video in the reels style. Every Story file you build must also stand alone as a Reel.
THE CRAFT — WHAT YOU MUST BE ABLE TO DO
- Build vertical 1080x1920 files for Reels, Stories, and Highlights from a written brief with a cut order for every story.
- Cut the dynamic reels format — fast archive-photo sequences at 1-1.5s per cut, in exact order, with holds where called out.
- Build photo collages, hold them, then break them into vertical full-frame cuts.
- Work with mixed sources in one file: archive photos, phone footage, professional photo/video, screen recordings and zooms, and simple animation.
- Cut talking heads and lay voiceovers under stills or footage — trim head/tail silence, set 1.1x speed, pick the better of two takes, and caption.
- Restore and colour-correct older or damaged photos rather than leaving them as-is.
NON-NEGOTIABLE CRAFT RULES
- Follow the brief exactly. The cut order is followed precisely — never reordered or substituted.
- Whole faces, whole frames. Every photo fits the frame whole, and a face is never cropped.
- Nothing over a face. No text or graphic is ever placed over a face.
- Restore old photos. Older and damaged photos are restored and colour-corrected, never left untouched.
- No text, stickers, or links. The editor adds none of these — they're placed in the app on upload.
- Every file stands alone as a Reel — including Stories.
WORKFLOW & DELIVERY
- All work happens in Dropbox — pull source material from named album folders and deliver finished files back into the same folder, named by story number.
- Every piece is built from a detailed brief / cut order.
- All raw material (A-roll, B-roll, C-roll) is provided — you won't source footage.
VOLUME, TURNAROUND & COMMITMENT
- Reels: minimum 1 per day.
- Stories: on average 1-2 per week.
- Turnaround: 1-2 business days per reel; same-day where flagged.
- Commitment: ongoing and long-term — a steady working relationship, not a new editor each week.
TOOLS
- A professional editing tool — Adobe Premiere Pro a plus (CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, etc. also fine).
- Dropbox (all source material and delivery).
PAID TEST ASSIGNMENT
Before ongoing work, every editor completes one paid test reel built from a real brief — so we can both confirm the fit.
