His extensive career encompasses a wide range of environmental responsibilities including teaching, project design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, policy review, and program development. He has applied his expertise in community based resource management and environmental management while working with indigenous communities and government officials. Presently, Gilbert serves as an ENR Planner at the Biodiversity Management Bureau, where he plays a crucial role in updating the ENR Framework Plan at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). He also shares his knowledge as a part-time elective subject teacher in Ecology. His previous roles include Vice President for Student Life at Southwestern University PHINMA and various consulting positions with organizations such as the World Bank and GIZ, focusing on natural resource management and community development.
