Simon B.

Simoné B. is an early-career scientist with a strong academic foundation in genetics, microbiology, and biomedical forensic science, having completed degree requirements for an MPhil in Biomedical Forensic Science at the University of Cape Town and holding both BSc and BSc Honours degrees in Genetics from the University of Pretoria. Her laboratory experience includes DNA extraction, sample preparation, quality control, and forensic data analysis using tools such as Real-Time PCR and GeneMapper™ ID-X. She has applied probabilistic genotyping and Bayesian modelling for complex DNA mixture interpretation (TrueAllele® system) and performed phylogenetic and comparative sequence analyses with bioinformatics software. In addition to research, Simoné B. has worked as a scribe and assistant volunteer at the Observatory Forensic Pathology Institute, supporting forensic pathologists during post-mortem examinations and maintaining chain-of-custody records according to strict ethical standards. She has also been a university tutor and actively contributed to print media production during holidays.
