Claims & AR Recovery Specialist – Part-Time (20 hrs/week)
We are a US mental health practice offering therapy and psychological testing. We’re hiring a part-time Claims & AR Recovery Specialist to work directly with our Practice Manager on collecting what we’ve already earned. This is a hands-on follow-up role. You’ll spend most of your time in payer portals and claim records, and on the phone with US insurance companies when needed.
What you’ll do
- Work our aging claims report oldest-first, moving each claim to payment or a documented next step
- Check claim status through payer portals or by phone: received, pending, paid, or denied
- Read ERAs/EOBs, identify the cause of each denial or rejection, and correct and resubmit or appeal
- Compare payments against what was billed, and flag underpayments for appeal
- Flag claims at risk of missing timely filing or appeal deadlines
- Verify eligibility and benefits, and submit and follow up on prior authorizations
- Log every claim you work, and send a short weekly update on claims worked, dollars recovered and open issues
Requirements
- 2+ years of US medical billing, claims follow-up or AR experience, ideally behavioral health or outpatient
- Hands-on experience with denials, appeals, ERAs/EOBs and CARC/RARC codes
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes. Experience with therapy codes (90791, 90834, 90837) and psych testing codes (96130–96139) is a strong plus.
- Comfortable calling US payers, with strong written English for appeals and notes
- Detail-oriented and self-directed: you manage your own queue and raise problems early
- Able to overlap with US Pacific Time business hours for part of each week
- Reliable internet, a quiet workspace, and willingness to follow HIPAA privacy rules (a confidentiality agreement is required)
Nice to have
- Experience with TherapyNotes, Availity, Office Ally or similar systems
- Workers’ compensation or out-of-network claims experience
- Google Sheets and Forms
Details
- 20 hours/week to start, with room to grow
- $8–10/hour depending on experience
- Remote, independent contractor
- Paid onboarding week with HIPAA training
